No more work for news photographers

December 1st, 2009 . by admin

With the invention of digital cameras and the ability to transmit photos, news photographers have found it harder to get work.  Of course the collapse of many news papers, news agencies and the ability to surf the world wide web doesn’t help either.  I know of one Chicago photographer who started supplementing his freelance business by shooting corporate functions, portraits and weddings.  Now that the news industry is paying little or next to nothing to its freelancers, his business continues to blossom, even during the current recession.

Wedding photo slideshow

November 30th, 2009 . by admin

My friend just received here wedding pictures which included a photo slideshow compilation.  The pictures were set to some of their favorite song and ran like a story from the start of the day until the end of the reception.  She was given two copies on DVD with the option to purchase more for family and friends.  What a great idea and thanks to new technology, I can put my own wedding photos on the computer and make a slideshow too.

The Art Of Thank You Cards

November 23rd, 2009 . by admin

There are manners and social graces that have always been in style, and although the methods of these politeness rituals may have changed, the thought behind them remains the same. It is important to remember that when someone sends you a gift, it is the polite and proper thing to do to send thank you cards. It is a bit of a lost art for some people, but these days there are electronic methods that can be sent as well as the old fashioned pen and paper that goes through the mail. People really never tire of being properly thanked for things.

My Son and His Music

November 18th, 2009 . by admin

My son has been driving me crazy because all that he wants to do is download music for his MP3 player.  I have told him that I cannot afford to purchase any more music from a popular site that charges money for the music.  I do not trust some of the sites that are out there so I was quite relieved when I found Ares Download Free music.  Now, my son can download all of the music that he wants and it will not cost a dime.  This is great news for the both of us.  I can definitely afford free.

Get Singing Lessons CD for You?

November 15th, 2009 . by admin

There are many ways to get better at singing.  You may learn singing on cd.  I like this format because you can take a CD into your car or you can play it on your portable player while you’re walking around.  You can also convert the CD into an electronic format and make the songs portable.  For example, you could go hiking with your lessons or take them in your car and sing out loud.  Just squeezing in a few minutes of singing practice per day can make a huge difference eventually.  So remember it’s most important to practice a little every day and not just a lot of minutes every few days.

To stay on theme, there are infinite choices of art and craft ideas for your children. I would like to share one of my favourites with you.

Snowmen are always a popular winter theme. It can be as simple or complicated as you like. I usually take three  sizes of paper plates and have the children decorate them with cotton wool balls. You can easily put sticks in for arms  and the durable nature of paper plates makes it possible to make real black eyes and a carrot-like nose.

The kids love to make a real live snowman, but when its not snowing outside, being able to use craft materials to make a snowman gives the kids a real buzz.

Guitar Lessons From the Ground Up

November 3rd, 2009 . by admin

My son wants to learn how to play the guitar. So we are going to get him a guitar for Christmas. I know absolutely nothing about guitars, other than a lot of musicians use them. So my husband is going with me to do the Christmas shopping this year. He has never done that before! He said that Kevin’s very first lesson on the guitar will be to learn the parts of a guitar. My husband is one of those people who like to teach everything from the ground up. When he started teaching our daughter to drive, he made sure she could do the basic maintenance by herself first.
