Scientists discover more foods that can lower blood pressure
August 31st, 2009 . by adminRaw celery, buckwheat groats, garlic and beetroot are several foods that can lower blood pressure. In fact, they act like a common class of hypertension drug called angiotensin inhibitors, or ACE inhibitors. ACE inhibitors, like many drugs, imitate the effect of common foods found in nature.
The common effect of these foods is to produce nitric oxide in the blood. Nitric oxide is a potent substance that helps regulate blood pressure by constricting or expanding blood vessels. Low levels of nitric oxide raise blood pressure and high levels of it lower blood pressure.
Researchers have found that a daily ration of buckwheat groats along with beetroot juice is a good natural way to reduce blood pressure. However, the effect is only temporary so it needs to be repeated daily.
